Atlanta is a city that thrives on energy, culture, and entertainment. Whether you’re a sports fanatic, a music lover, or a foodie, the city offers a vibrant mix of experiences that can satisfy any interest. Having lived in Atlanta, I’ve had the chance to explore its best attractions, from high-intensity sporting events to unforgettable live music performances and must-try dining spots. If you’re planning to visit or just want to make the most of the city, here’s a guide to some of Atlanta’s best sports, music, and food experiences.
The Ultimate Sports Scene
As a massive sports fan, one of my favorite things about Atlanta is its passionate sports culture. The city is home to multiple professional teams, and the atmosphere at any game is electric.
- Atlanta Braves at Truist Park: Whether you’re a die-hard baseball fan or just looking for a fun night out, catching an Atlanta Braves game at Truist Park is a must. The stadium offers a great mix of traditional ballpark vibes and modern amenities, plus The Battery Atlanta—a lively area full of restaurants and bars—makes it a perfect place to hang out before and after the game.
- Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium: Football fans can experience one of the most impressive stadiums in the country when they watch the Falcons play at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The stadium’s retractable roof and massive video board add to the excitement, and the fan energy is contagious.
- Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena: As a huge basketball fan, I love catching Hawks games at State Farm Arena. The team has an exciting young core, and the arena provides a fantastic game-day experience with top-tier entertainment.
- Atlanta United FC: If you haven’t been to an MLS game, Atlanta United’s matches are a great introduction to soccer. Their games draw some of the most passionate crowds in American soccer, creating an atmosphere that rivals any major sport.
The Heartbeat of Atlanta’s Music Scene
Atlanta has a legendary music history and remains one of the top cities for live performances across multiple genres. From hip-hop to country to rock, there’s always a concert or festival happening.
- The Tabernacle: This iconic venue in downtown Atlanta hosts some of the best live music performances. Its historic setting, paired with excellent acoustics, makes for an intimate yet energetic experience.
- Mercedes-Benz Stadium and State Farm Arena Concerts: These venues bring in some of the biggest names in music, from Beyoncé to the Rolling Stones. If a major tour is coming through Atlanta, chances are it’s stopping at one of these spots.
- Shaky Knees and Music Midtown Festivals: For festival lovers, Atlanta delivers. Shaky Knees is a must for alternative and rock fans, while Music Midtown brings a diverse lineup of pop, hip-hop, and indie artists to Piedmont Park.
- Live Music at The Eastern and Variety Playhouse: If you’re looking for a more intimate concert experience, The Eastern and Variety Playhouse offer incredible shows with up-and-coming and established artists in a cozy setting.
A Foodie’s Paradise
Atlanta’s food scene is just as exciting as its sports and music culture. Whether you’re craving Southern comfort food, international flavors, or modern fusion cuisine, the city has endless options.
- Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q: If you want authentic, mouth-watering barbecue, Fox Bros. is the place to go. Their smoked meats, especially the brisket, are legendary.
- Ponce City Market: This food hall is packed with some of the best eats in the city. Whether you’re in the mood for burgers, tacos, or sushi, you’ll find something delicious here.
- The Varsity: An Atlanta classic, The Varsity is the world’s largest drive-in restaurant and a must-visit for first-timers. Their chili dogs and Frosted Orange shakes are local favorites.
- Staplehouse: For a high-end dining experience, Staplehouse is a standout. This restaurant offers a seasonal menu with locally sourced ingredients and creative dishes.
- Buford Highway: If you love international cuisine, Buford Highway is home to some of the best Asian, Mexican, and Latin American restaurants in the region. Exploring the area is like taking a food tour around the world.
